Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have successfully repelled a major terrorist advance originating from the Baban Doka axis of Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State toward Ragada and Warari communities in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State. The operation, which took place on Monday, 22 July 2025, resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists and the recovery of arms, motorcycles, and communications equipment.

In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer for OPFY, Captain Davis Adewusi, it was disclosed that the terrorists were intercepted near Inana Village in Rijau LGA, following swift and coordinated action by joint security teams from the Mariga and Zuru axes.

According to the statement, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight after receiving actionable intelligence, with the Air Component of OPFY providing crucial support through surveillance operations and precision airstrikes. The aerial and ground coordination enabled troops to decisively overwhelm the advancing terrorists and disrupt their plans to destabilize local communities and rustle livestock.

Recovered during the operation were two AK-47 rifles, a magazine loaded with five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 18 motorcycles, and multiple pieces of communication equipment. The recovery of these items is expected to disrupt the group’s mobility and communication capabilities in the affected axis.

Tragically, one soldier was fatally injured during the confrontation. Captain Adewusi paid tribute to the fallen hero, describing him as a gallant fighter who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of peace and national security.

“This successful joint assault thwarted the terrorists’ plans to destabilize the area and rustle livestock. The bravery and professionalism displayed by our troops are commendable, and we remain resolute in our mandate to defeat all terrorist and criminal elements operating across the North West and parts of the North Central region,” the statement read.

OPFY also reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting civilians and restoring peace to the region. The task force called on members of the public to continue providing credible information to aid ongoing offensive operations.

“Our strength lies not only in our firepower but in the collaboration we maintain with the communities we protect. We urge the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the military with timely intelligence,” Captain Adewusi added.
