The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has commended troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) for their relentless efforts in maintaining pressure against terrorists and criminal groups operating across the North-West and parts of the North-Central region of Nigeria. The commendation was given by the DHQ Assessment Team led by Major General WB Idris during a working visit to the Headquarters of OPFY in Gusau, Zamfara State on Monday, July 15, 2025.

Speaking during the visit, Major General Idris stressed the significance of regular evaluation of joint military operations to ensure they remain aligned with the Armed Forces’ strategic goals and the overarching national objective of stabilizing the region through the deployment of a Joint Task Force. He explained that the purpose of the DHQ team’s visit was to assess the current state of ongoing operations, strengthen inter-agency synergy, and identify areas where improvements could be made to enhance the effectiveness of counterterrorism and anti-banditry campaigns.

According to a statement signed by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi, Major General Idris applauded the high level of professionalism and cohesion exhibited by troops drawn from multiple security agencies involved in the operation. He noted that the troops have shown admirable resilience and commitment in the face of difficult terrain and a complex and evolving threat landscape.

“The dedication of the troops and their seamless coordination with other security stakeholders is commendable,” he said. “This operation demands consistency, courage, and collaboration, and I urge you all to sustain the current tempo and continue to give your best to the mission.”

He further underscored the importance of enhanced coordination and information sharing among security agencies and local stakeholders as a means of improving operational outcomes and ensuring sustainable peace in the region.

The Theatre Commander of OPFY, Major General Oluyinka Soyele, who received the DHQ team at the Headquarters in Gusau, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a timely morale booster and an opportunity to fine-tune field strategies. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring operational success and stressed the importance of keeping troops motivated and fostering an environment of unity among all security operatives involved in the mission.

“The visit of the DHQ Assessment Team is a crucial reminder of the strategic importance of our operation and the trust reposed in us by the Armed Forces leadership,” Major General Soyele stated.

As part of the assessment tour, the DHQ team also visited troops at their forward operating bases in Kwotorkoshi and Tsafe, located in Bungudu and Tsafe Local Government Areas of Zamfara State respectively. During the field visits, Major General Idris personally commended the troops for their gallant efforts and encouraged them to remain resolute in their pursuit of the mission objectives.
