The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, OFR, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing his passing as a great national loss.

In a condolence message conveyed on behalf of himself, the Service Chiefs, and the entire personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), General Musa extended heartfelt condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Buhari family, and Nigerians at large. The message, issued in a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, mourned the loss of what he called a revered elder statesman, patriot, and gallant senior military officer.

General Musa hailed the late President Buhari as an exemplary leader whose life embodied discipline, integrity, and unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s unity and progress. He acknowledged Buhari’s significant contributions to national development through his roles in both military and democratic leadership, noting that his legacy is firmly etched in the country’s history.

“The late President Buhari was a symbol of dedication to national service,” the CDS stated. “He fought tirelessly for the unity and indivisibility of our great country. His leadership, courage, and principles will continue to inspire generations of citizens.”

Highlighting Buhari’s personal values, General Musa said the former President earned a place in the annals of Nigerian history as an incorruptible leader and a vanguard of prudency. He further emphasized that Buhari’s strict discipline and respect for the rule of law were defining characteristics of his governance style in both military and civilian life.

“President Buhari’s zero tolerance for indiscipline remains worthy of emulation,” General Musa added.

While praying for the peaceful repose of the former President’s soul, the CDS also prayed that Almighty Allah grant his family, loved ones, and the entire nation the strength and fortitude to bear what he described as a monumental loss.
