The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has joined other Nigerians in mourning the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as a profound national loss. Buhari, who died on Sunday in London, served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023.

In a statement issued by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jonathan Eze, the minister extended heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, noting that the late president’s life was marked by dedication and an unyielding commitment to the country’s development.

“His departure is a profound loss not only to his family but also to the nation he served with dedication and commitment,” she said.

Hajiya Sulaiman-Ibrahim highlighted the impact of Buhari’s leadership, particularly in advancing the welfare of women and children during his administration. She praised his policies as instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s development narrative, noting that the Ministry of Women Affairs benefited from the former president’s support for gender equality and women empowerment.

“His leadership and policies impacted millions, promoting initiatives that advanced the welfare of women and children, crucial components in the nation’s development narrative. As Minister of Women Affairs, I recognize the strides made under his administration in empowering women and advocating for gender equality,” she stated.

Reflecting on his legacy, the minister lauded Buhari’s resilience and his emphasis on national integrity, describing him as a visionary leader whose contributions will continue to inspire future generations.

“In this moment of grief, we remember President Buhari for his resilience, focus on national integrity, and the vision he had for a prosperous Nigeria. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations as we navigate the challenges of nation-building,” she said.

Hajiya Sulaiman-Ibrahim called on Nigerians to honor the former president’s memory through acts of unity and service to the nation, urging citizens to reflect on the values he upheld throughout his public life.

“Our prayers are with his family during this difficult time, and we stand in solidarity with all who mourn his passing,” the minister added.
