The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed as false a press release currently circulating on social media and messaging platforms, which claims that a Computer-Based Test (CBT) has been scheduled for July 2025 as part of its ongoing recruitment exercise.
In an official statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS categorically disowned the purported announcement, describing it as “fraudulent, misleading, and completely unauthorised.”
According to the statement, “At no time did the Service issue any announcement regarding a CBT scheduled to take place in July 2025. The press release being shared is fake and did not originate from the Nigeria Customs Service.”
The Service further revealed that a closer review of the circulating document exposes several irregularities, including formatting inconsistencies and the use of a non-standard e-signature that does not align with official NCS communications. It also noted that the timeline presented in the document is disconnected from any legitimate recruitment process currently being undertaken by the NCS.
The Customs spokesperson acknowledged the high level of interest among Nigerians in the recruitment exercise, but urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging with or disseminating unverified information. “Authentic updates about NCS recruitment and other activities will only be made available on our official website, verified social media handles, and recognised national newspapers,” he stated.
To address the incident, the Service disclosed that it is actively working to identify the source of the false information and has vowed to take appropriate measures against those found culpable.
“We deeply appreciate the vigilance of concerned Nigerians and reiterate our commitment to transparency and integrity in all our processes. The public will be duly informed through appropriate channels when the Service is ready to commence the next phase of recruitment,” the statement concluded.
The NCS advised applicants and members of the public to stay informed through verified sources and avoid falling victim to misinformation or fraudulent recruitment schemes.
