The General Services Office (GSO) in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) witnessed a historic transition on Monday, as Dr. Maurice Nnamdi Mbaeri, FCA, NPoM, OON, officially handed over the reins of leadership to Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, FCNA, the current Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office. The handover marks the end of Dr. Mbaeri’s illustrious and dedicated service to the Federal Civil Service, spanning over three decades.
An official signed statement by the director, information and public relations Segun Imohiosen disclosed that during a brief but memorable ceremony held in Abuja, Dr. Mbaeri expressed confidence in the ability of his successor to successfully steer the affairs of the General Services Office. He urged other Permanent Secretaries within the OSGF to extend their full support to Danjuma, in order to ensure seamless continuity in the discharge of responsibilities.
In his valedictory remarks, Dr. Mbaeri extended profound gratitude to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, as well as former SGF, Boss Mustapha, for the opportunity to serve under their leadership. Reflecting on his five-year tenure within the OSGF, he acknowledged the immense knowledge and wisdom he gained while working closely with the two senior officials.
He also expressed appreciation to his colleagues in the Service, including the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Project Office, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako; the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office, Engr. Gagare Nadungu; and the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office, Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, for their cooperation and cordial working relationship. He further thanked the management and staff of the OSGF for their unflinching support throughout his career.
In his acceptance remarks, Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma hailed Dr. Mbaeri as “a mentor per excellence,” commending his selfless commitment and unwavering professionalism which, he noted, had left a lasting impact on the civil service. Danjuma assured his predecessor that the Office would continue to draw from his vast experience, even in retirement.
The newly designated Permanent Secretary overseeing the General Services Office also expressed sincere appreciation to the SGF, Senator George Akume, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, for reposing confidence in him to take on the new assignment. He called on fellow Permanent Secretaries and staff of the OSGF to offer him the same level of support that was extended to Dr. Mbaeri to ensure sustained effectiveness in the Office’s operations.
As part of the events marking his graceful exit from public service, Dr. Mbaeri celebrated his 60th birthday, which coincided with his official retirement. The celebration, held in Abuja, was attended by top government officials including SGF Senator George Akume, Permanent Secretaries, staff of the OSGF, and numerous well-wishers whose lives he touched during his career. The atmosphere was filled with heartfelt tributes, honouring his distinguished legacy of service, mentorship, and professionalism.
Dr. Mbaeri’s departure from service is seen not only as the close of an exemplary chapter in public administration but also as the beginning of a new era, with expectations high that his successor will continue to build on the strong foundation he laid in the General Services Office.
