Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has strongly condemned the deadly suicide bombing that rocked a night fish market in Konduga Local Government Area, describing it as a barbaric and cowardly act by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

The attack, which occurred late Thursday night around 10:00 p.m., claimed the lives of 12 persons and left 18 others critically injured, sending shockwaves through the otherwise quiet community known for its resilience in the face of insurgency.

Reacting to the incident through a statement signed by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives, declaring the attack “an assault on our shared humanity” and a senseless attempt to destabilize the state.

“The barbaric acts committed by these terrorists are not only heinous but an assault on our shared humanity,” Zulum stated. “This is a cowardly and barbaric attempt to instil fear in the people and undermine our collective resilience. The people of Borno are resilient, and we refuse to be cowed by terrorists.”

The governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured. “To the families who have lost loved ones, I extend my deepest sympathies and pray to Allah for the quick recovery of those who are injured,” he said.

Zulum also called on residents to remain vigilant and proactive by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the appropriate security agencies. He emphasized that sustained community cooperation is crucial in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

Reassuring the public of his administration’s dedication to their safety, the governor revealed that the Borno State Government is working closely with security agencies to prevent future attacks and strengthen existing counter-insurgency efforts.

The attack is the latest in a series of assaults believed to be carried out by remnants of the insurgent group, despite significant gains made by Nigerian military forces in recent years. It has drawn widespread condemnation and renewed calls for continued vigilance and resilience among communities in the region.
